Having met at work over 8 years ago, Hannah & Paul chose VOEWOOD as the venue to celebrate their marriage back in May 2015. It was a fun yet relaxed affair in the stunning North Norfolk country house with their closest and dearest.
We spoke to the couple a while ago and we are SO excited to share this gorgeous wedding with you!
“Paul took me for a surprise weekend away in Walberswick to stay at the Bell Inn. At around 7 pm he suggested we went for a walk down to the beach. He found a nice spot under the stars and then he caught me surprise and popped the question.
After I said yes a bottle of bubbles was quickly pulled from his bag to toast the engagement!”
THE WEDDING PLANNING
Paul proposed in November 2014 and the wedding planning started from around Christmas and early in the New Year, with couple tying the knot in May 2015.
“We couldn’t have done it without Hannah’s parents who spent hours trawling the internet and looking at beautiful old houses in Norfolk. We enjoyed every aspect of the planning process, although making those key choices were really hard – venue, dress, caterers – when it came down to the final decision. We really enjoyed looking around all the different venues on offer. We would recommend looking at as many as possible as it was so much fun.”
THE WEDDING THEME
The couple didn’t really have a theme in mind and with a wedding venue like VOEWOOD you don’t really need to have one as it has such an eclectic mix of amazing furniture, pictures and decoration set in breath-taking gardens.
“We mainly wanted the wedding to be personal and informal.”
THE WEDDING DRESS
We say: when a girl knows – she knows!
“I first saw the dress online and I knew it was THE ONE. I had tried on quite a few dresses that I really liked but when I tried this one on I loved it straight away and knew it was the one for me.”
THE WEDDING DAY
Hannah & Paul spent the whole weekend at VOEWOOD which made the experience so unique as they could really soak in the atmosphere and explore the gorgeous venue. The couple was joined by forty friends and family for drinks, curry and games on Friday night to kick start the celebrations.
They had hoped for an outdoor ceremony and 20 minutes before Hannah walked down the aisle the registrar gave the all ok, which meant they could say their vows outside, surrounded by the fabulously manicured mature gardens, making it really special and personal to them.
The highlight of the ceremony was a beautiful reading by Hannah’s Grannie. This was a poem she had written about the happy couple and by the end there was a dry eye to be seen. This was followed by a long leisurely afternoon out on the veranda sipping prosecco and enjoying tasty canaps (along with the odd photo or two!).
Guests were seated for the speeches and a scrumptious wedding breakfast catered by ‘Back To The Garden’ team around 4pm. It was great to be able to mingle and talk to the guests before the couple took to the dance floor for their first dance at 8pm to Ray Charles, “Hallelujah, I love her so”. This kicked off a night of much dancing and lots of fun culminating in a 3am singalong (for those still standing!) of Hey Jude around the piano. Sounds like our kind of wedding party indeed!
According to Hannah, there so many amazing times throughout the day that it is hard to pick, but there were a few very special moments that she will treasure forever:
“My Grannie wrote a poem as a reading for our ceremony which was held on a beautiful sunny day in the gardens of Voewood. Not a dry eye in the house. Also, that first step out of the house into the gardens to walk down the aisle and looking down to all the people I care about and knowing I was about to have one of the most amazing days of my life.”
For Paul, the best bits were all about the secret shots bar outside, in the grounds. “It was so secret, that even I didn’t know about it for about two hours!” Paul also fondly remembers all the good times on the dancefloor with friends and family.
The biggest memory was of his now wife, Hannah: “The main highlight for me was seeing Hannah taking the long walk down from the house to the gardens, where we had the ceremony, looking amazingly beautiful in her dress as she made her way towards me.”
WEDDING PLANNING TIPS
Hannah says: “My biggest tip is to enjoy the planning and not to worry about things too much. Also make sure you go dress shopping somewhere that serves Champagne!”
And on the day of the wedding:”Make sure you stop every so often and look around you, so you can realise what an amazing day it is. Don’t worry about the little things on the day, just go with the flow and enjoy every second of it because it will be amazing!”
