Good afternoon my lovelies! Isn’t it lovely to finally see some sunshine again? For the last Real Wedding of Summer ’18 (how is it over already?!) we are sharing a beautiful wedding of Victoria and Oliver, who met at the local gym back in 2011 and the rest, as they say, is history.

As always, Victoria tells their tale as it was in her own words, so grab a cuppa, cosy up and have a read.

Oli is very much a family man. I also know that he doesn’t like ‘audiences’, which is why I was clueless when the proposal happened! It took place at Oli’s Dad’s house, on Christmas Day, with all his closest family there. He was being really weird all day. When his box of beloved Maltesers still wasn’t empty by 8 pm, I knew something wasn’t right! Oli came into the lounge and was stood in front of me calling my name. I had my head down in a magazine and I was completely distracted. I was so into my mag that I actually said ‘hang on a second’ (how embarrassing!).  When I finally looked up he was down on one knee!

We got engaged in Christmas 2014 and booked our venue Southwood Hall the following summer. We wanted to enjoy being engaged and not rush things so booked for 2017 – which also meant we had a free choice of date too. The 1st of July was our lucky day! We didn’t actually start proper wedding planning until about a year to go, and then it was full steam ahead. I had really enjoyed just sitting and looking through Pinterest, Instagram, and magazines. I loved gathering ideas, looking at all the different style options. It has really helped me to decide exactly what we wanted.

The theme we opted for was ‘rustic glam’. We really loved our barn wedding venue and I envisioned it filled with lots of gorgeous flowers. We gave up on narrowing down to a single colour for our theme, and instead had a palette of blush neutrals with shades of dusky pinks, purples and greys with a bit of silver for some wow detail. We were so happy with our styling turned out on the day and our vision definitely came to life. Our venue looked classic but with a contemporary edge, and all our details gave it that extra WOW factor!

My gorgeous wedding dress ‘Harper’ was made by the British designer Sassi Holford from Love Bridal Boutique in Manchester (save yourself a trip and check out Sassi Holford gowns at The Bottom Drawer Bridal in King’s Lynn!). The dress had a beautiful sheer lace bodice with a high neckline, a stunning open back with spaghetti straps, and a wow-worthy full skirt. A stunning Sassi-bow belt and a dramatic cathedral length veil added the finishing touches. I wore this with a beautiful pair of grey velvet heels, and a forehead vine from Hermione Harbutt.

As for the wedding planning tips I would highly recommend spreadsheets/lists for guests addresses, keeping check of the budget, as well as helping you work through all the different aspects of your wedding. I know it might sound a bit OCD but honestly, if you keep a log of it does make everything a lot easier.

We had a wonderful day with lots of emotional but also hilarious moments. If we could leave any wedding advice, it would be:

“Remember its ‘your day, your way!  Stick to your style and what you want as a couple, and don’t feel pressured in any way. The build-up can be stressful when you are wanting everything to go perfectly (especially when you are a perfectionist like me!). On the day you will realise that all the little worries become irrelevant – and guests won’t actually notice if the slightest little thing is out of place. Most importantly, enjoy every second especially marrying your best friend!
