Sea and Mermaid Inspired Bridal Shoot On Norfolk Coast. Photo: Oliver Lall
This week I am sharing something a little different and unusual compared to our usual posts. When I first saw these images the turquoise tones really popped and hazy seaside feel made me think of the heatwave we had this summer. I really enjoyed the little details – especially the seashell decorated wedding cake and intricately decorated jewellery!
This shoot was styled and curated by Brooke from Boho Beauty Box and Megan Roose, photographed by Oliver Lall. Read on for the finer details and I hope that you will enjoy these gorgeous photos.
I remembered seeing these spectacular shell crowns while browsing Pinterest one day and thinking how awesome they looked! I also spotted an incredible shell cake, made by Imogen at Sugar Buttons Cakes, and all sorts of ideas came into my head. Thus the mermaid inspired beach shoot was born. Beach, shells, beautiful cake, mermaid crowns, glitter…what’s not to like?
We were trying to achieve a rustic bridal beach setup with a more surreal, mermaid-inspired look. The location we chose was West Runton on the Norfolk coast; it’s a characteristic beach with natural cliffs as the backdrop. Our wonderful model Megan and I set about creating the crowns by using attaching shells and chains to an Alice band then smothering it all in glitter! Becky from Love Frank provided some spectacular and unique bouquets using peonies, Canterbury bells, cow parsley, wild grasses, white anniversary roses and Euphorbia, all from her garden. Her large dried and faux bouquet contained sea thistle, fern, grasses, dried thistles, vanilla grass, dried hydrangea heads to resemble corals and clam lights to suit the theme. Imogen’s tall cake features watercolour painting, delicate layered wafer paper with gilded edges and topped off with a selection of hand-painted edible shells and chocolate coral. She also made cupcakes with matching edible shells and blue watercolour striped meringue kisses.
The day we picked to shoot turned out to be boiling hot, without a cloud in the sky. Although this was lovely, it did provide some challenges as well! One of which was lugging two wooden pallets down to the beach, which I decided to set up as a makeshift table. We chose Oliver Lall to be the photographer for this shoot as his style was a good match for the surreal and unconventional nature of the look we were trying to achieve. Megan looked stunning wearing a beautiful white lace bodysuit from Quiz and a flowing skirt we sourced online. I left her hair in its free-flowing natural way and for her makeup, I went a little out there on the eyes using a turquoise and glitter pigment and smoked out the outer corners of the eye. We had a little play with some gems and glitter – this teamed with the smoke bombs and mermaid crowns made for some real fun, festival styled shots.
