A little insight into wedding jewellery specialists, Aurum Jewellers, a family run jewellers based in the historic Norwich Lanes. Well worth a visit if you like beautiful, independent shops.
One of the first things people notice when they step into Aurum is that it’s not your traditional jewellers. Firstly we are hugely lucky to be located in a fantastic former medieval merchant’s house in the historic Norwich Lanes. But more importantly we’ve built a reputation for offering and designing high quality, contemporary jewellery in a relaxed and welcoming environment. You don’t have to dress up to come and look at wedding rings at Aurum, we welcome individuality and want you to come in feeling comfortable – as you are.
Having opened my first jewellery shop in Norwich in 1975, I eventually went on to open Aurum in 1997 with my wife Carol. Our objective was to offer unique, contemporary and quality jewellery at fair prices. Over the last 40 years having run both succesful retail and wholesale businesses, we’ve built up a wealth of knowledge and expertise. I like nothing more than giving honest, independent advice on wedding and engagement rings. One of my greatest passions is helping create a bespoke design for a customer – working on the initial concept or sketch right through to the finished piece. I also have a huge passion for comtemporary jewellery and we are lucky enough to stock some fantastic award winning designers including British Designer of the year Andrew Geoghegan.
So who else is part of the Aurum team?
Aurum is a genuine independent and family run operation. My wife Carol works alongside me (when she isn’t gardening or baking!), and my daughters Charlie and Claire joined the team in 1999 and 2005 respectively. We are also lucky to have a fantastic team of loyal staff who are always ready to greet our customers with a smile. I also have four young grandchildren who have been known to help out on occasion and who are already showing a keen interest in jewellery making!
My top tips when choosing your wedding ring
I often get asked what my top tips are when choosing a ring. It’s simple really – always visit an independent to get the best advice.
- Touch the jewellery – does the shank feel solid and have some weight to it – can you feel the quality?
- Choose the best metal to suit your budget and when it comes to diamonds buy the best quality diamond you can afford.
- Also – be mindful that your wedding rings are one of the few things that will last well beyond your big day so it’s worth budgeting accordingly as they really are a true investment.
I hope you will take time to visit us in the run up to your big day. We’ll take time to understand your design preferences and budget and are happy to answer any question you may have.
