Good afternoon folks! Hands up who is enjoying this much fresher weather? I don’t know about you, but I have been so much more creative and productive since the heatwave ended.

Today’s #RealWeddingFriday feature is of Megan and Tony. I am super excited to share one of my favourite weddings from our latest issue of  Norfolk Brides Magazine. It is a  beautiful woodland luxe inspired affair with lots of personalised details and stunning antler decor. I would have expected nothing less from the boss babe Megan (who is a co-owner of Swaffham Florist – those girls ROCK!).  I was in love with it from the moment I laid my eyes on the sneak preview Megan shared from her (epic!) wedding photographer Darina Stoda. If you love all things free-spirited, bohemian and with a twist of rustic, then get comfy. It is a good one!

Before The Big Day

We met at a Newmarket Races Ladies Day through friends and have been together over four years. It was our first Christmas in our little cottage and Tony knew how Christmas was my favourite day of the year, so he got down on one knee by the fire on Christmas morning. I, of course, said “Yes“!

wedding planning

We started planning the wedding straight away.  I had brought the bridesmaid dresses three days later! It wasn’t something I planned, but just saw them and just went for it. Being a florist I always knew that I wanted for my wedding to be in May as all my favourite flowers were available then. Since we chose to have our wedding reception in Tony’s parents garden, we had a full control over everything – from the timings on the day, to the decor and even to the type of cutlery we had. The small details meant the most to me and making everything so personal meant so much to us both.

Jaymi and her team from Unique Norfolk Venues planned the catering and running of the day. Having a team we knew we fully trusted, was important and knowing we had a team to manage the day to take any pressure from us and family members were vital. Organising a big wedding like ours, with lots of details and personal touches is a huge undertaking. If you are not experienced in this or not very organised it can become really overwhelming. After all, it is your wedding day so if you can, have someone help you ( or even better – manage the whole day for you!) because you want to be able to enjoy your day and create those special memories – not worry about the cutlery, food or logistics of the day!

Before the wedding I even got the bridesmaids involved with helping with painting the name boards, the order of services, decorating the arrival drink bottles and other personalised touches! Not only they were a huge help, but it was really fun to spend some more time with them too!

My best wedding planning tips:

Research your suppliers and book them early.  The best suppliers can get booked up for 2 – 3 years in advance so if your heart is set on someone – get in early or risk missing out. Also, don’t be scared to ask for help. The groom can be helpful with ticking things off the wedding to – do list too!

Your Wedding Day

My bridesmaids and I stayed at my parents’ house the night before the wedding.  We had a lovely morning getting ready together. Tony had all the groomsmen stay at our house the night before and they all got ready together along with our two dogs Bilbo and Bailey.

The boys were picked up by our local gamekeeper and were taken to the church in the back of an old army truck. I travelled with dad in a vintage 1940’s white Humber. We had arranged for the entire day guests to be picked up by the gorgeous vintage route master double-decker red buses, and taken to the church and then onto the reception. It was a lovely surprise, especially to my grandparents who are a total #couplegoals to Tony and I.  They recently celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary! They met on the front seat top deck of a route master, so to give them a ride on one of those busses again, and it to be on our wedding day meant the world.

We got married in the beautiful Shouldham Church. I grew up in the village and lived there until I was 17; therefore I always knew that’s where I wanted to get married. Every choice we made about the wedding we wanted to be linked to Tony and I.  We chose to hold the wedding reception in Tony’s parent’s garden, as he spent his careless childhood years playing in the gardens and surrounding fields. We put a big emphasis on arrival drinks, as it is often known to be a bit of a lull in the day.

Having got married early in the day, we knew it was vital to make sure there was plenty of good food and drinks to keep everyone happy. The drinks included our own personalised gin cocktail ‘Megatone’ along with Pimms, champagne, cider, ale and pints of beer (which had to be served in branded glasses so that they kept the bubbles….This was a joke of our wedding planning as it was the one thing Tony was adamant on!). There were lots of garden games including crazy golf, penalty shoot-out, coconut shy and so on.  We also had a cool caricaturist who drawn photos of the guests throughout the drinks and meal. It was a huge hit among the guests!

Local bands ‘Jessie’s Ghost’ was entertaining us throughout the evening. The first dance took place in the garden on a dancefloor of a Persian rug. The band has remixed two of ‘our’ (favourite) songs –  Rudimental “Feel the Love” and Oasis “Wonderwall” together.  It was the most perfect and meaningful moment.

For our wedding breakfast, we indulged in a full-blown meat feast BBQ followed by a passionfruit tart. The speeches went down a treat, and as expected, there were lots of laughs cringes along with a few tears. Before Tony and I got together we saw each other on a night out, and he offered to buy me and my friend a jager bomb in return for a golf club, so I agreed. To commemorate this, we decided to finish our speeches with a jager bomb and then I surprised Tony with my end of the deal a customised golf club with our wedding date on it.

The evening of the wedding was brilliant we surprised my cousin Matthew with officially opening the dancefloor as he known for his moves and love of getting the party started. The dancefloor was full of people throwing shapes and enjoying themselves throughout the night. We had a huge cake station supplied by our local bakery near our shop. The handmade doughnut wall was hugely popular and we receive so many comments about it! For the evening snack, we had cones of cheesy chips ( and they were amazing!). We then stayed the night is a beautiful decorated Bell Tent.
