Laura and Eric’s secret wedding was a prefect reflection of their minimalist style. It was a very small affair, attended by just their three-year old daughter Nina and Laura’s mum and stepdad.

Married at Norwich Castle, the couple then went on a historic walk through the Norwich streets with their photographer to get some fantastic shots to send to Eric’s family in Mexico. Lunch was at Benedicts Restaurant, before changing and heading out in the evening on their own for a ‘date night’ - pizza at Brick and a trip to the cinema!

BEFORE THE WEDING DAY

We decided to get married about a year or so before the big day, but we didn’t start organising anything until a couple of months before.  We wanted to have a very intimate and relaxed wedding, so it all came together very easily.   Plus we had some luck along the way!

We didn't have a theme – but then we are both minimalists when it comes to design choices!  If anything, it was a ‘city’ wedding; Laura is from Norwich and very proud of her hometown.  The city centre provided a beautiful historic backdrop to all the photographs sent to Eric’s family in Mexico.

Laura:

"I wanted to wear a skirt and top; a bit more informal for such a small affair.  The jumper was knitted by my Mum using beautifully soft merino wool. Mum is an expert knitter and willingly agreed to make it, though she did start getting nervous as the wedding day approached.  However, when I tried it on it just fitted beautifully.  The skirt is made of dupion silk and was made by Love Couture in Norwich.  The clothes were the most beautiful things I have ever worn, and I wish I could wear fabrics like these every day! It was a sunny day in April when we got married, but really quite chilly – but I was kept lovely and snug in my wedding knitwear!"

We also decided to keep the wedding secret until afterwards - almost like an elopement - as it was always going to be a very small affair.  We told our immediate family, and Laura’s Mum and Stepdad attended as witnesses, but apart from that we kept it quiet – which was quite difficult when some of our good friends started interrogating us about if we were ever planning to tie the knot!

Your Wedding Day

We stayed at 3 Princes, a lovely Georgian Townhouse near St Andrew’s Hall (with amazing furniture - and a very sweet owner!).

In the morning Eric and Nina went out for coffee with Laura’s Stepdad, whilst Laura’s Mum helped bride to get ready.  Then we all met at the Castle for the Registry Office Ceremony.

Following the official wedding ceremony  Laura, Eric and our three guests had photographs taken at the Castle, before returning to 3 Princes for a glass of Champagne.  Laura’s Mum, Stepdad and Laura and Eric’s young daughter had a rest, whilst we went and had more photographs taken around the city.

We then went for an incredible lunch at Benedicts - our absolute favourite restaurant in Norwich.  In the evening we got changed into our normal clothes and went on a ‘date night’ just the two of us; for pizza at Brick, and then to the cinema!

It was a bit like being teenagers again! Given that we are the sleep-deprived parents of an energetic pre-schooler it was a real treat to have this quiet and relaxing evening to ourselves.
