Norwich Castle + St Giles House Wedding // Sarah & John

25 July 2016 / Real Weddings

I have been itching to share this gorgeous Norwich Castle Wedding and the wedding reception at St Giles House Hotel for a while now. It is our first real wedding feature since the Norwich Castle became an official Registration Office for Norwich.

Thank you to Andy Dane Photography for submitting the lovely images and for Sarah & John for sharing their big day!

Before The Big Day

Sarah & John met in the freezer section at Tesco’s... OK, they actually met on Tinder.

"We met for a coffee on your first date, and despite both turning up at separate Starbucks venues, we did eventually find each other. The coffee led to a meal and before we knew it we'd both agreed on a second date. We've been together for just over two and half years."

The Proposal

"John proposed on a romantic SPA break at Congham Hall in North Norfolk. He was getting so nervous, he gave himself a headache (!). Whilst we were getting ready for our evening meal, he reached in to his overnight bag to get some paracetamol and promptly returned with the pills and the ring! Romantic and practical all in one!"

The Wedding Planning

"We started planning the wedding around 12 months before we got married. It gave us a chance to really think about what we wanted, research the venues and enjoy the build up. We done everything ourselves and this made it more personable to us."

"It was finding and finalising all the little details that was the most enjoyable part, because on the day, they complete everything."

"We did not have a specific theme. We just decided to keep it minimal and because we had two stunning venues (Norwich Castle & St Giles House Hotel), we let their character and charm come through with our guests."

"Finding the dress is always one of the fun things to do. I would advise trying on as many as you can to find the perfect one for you. Camilla Brides in Norwich were fantastic, very friendly, knowledgeable and professional. My ivory gown was originally strapless, but for me adding the lace straps finished the dress of perfectly."

Wedding Planning Tips

"Stay strong and resist everyone else getting involved. Friends and family want to help, but sometimes it can be overwhelming, so just agree as a couple and go with what you both want. Above all else, keep it simple and stick with your choices."

THE BIG DAY

After a morning of make-up and hair, the dress was on and the family were ready. Sarah had a chauffeur driven car from their house in Reepham, to Norwich Castle. According to the bride the arrival at the castle was like a fairy-tale.

John: "I met my family and friends at St Giles and preceded to pace around and hope I'd remembered everything. Luckily everyone kept me calm and a few drinks later we headed to the castle for the ceremony."

Couple: "The ceremony was short, but perfect for us. We then went to St Giles and had a champagne afternoon tea reception. It was so great to see everyone relaxed and we think the decision to keep it less formal really worked. Once the speeches had been done (few nerves, but they were all wonderful), we got our dancing shoes on and hit the floor. Our guests danced, used the props we had laid on for funny pictures and kept their energy up with the retro sweet selection in the bar. After many smiles and goodbyes, we both headed to the amazing bridal suite...the rest remains a couples secret."

The couples favourite moment was walking out after they got married. It was the moment they felt the pressure was off, everyone was smiling and they knew the rest of the day was going to be the fun part.

Wedding Day Tips

"As a couple, just try to stop for a moment and take it all in. It's so easy to get lost in all the nerves and excitement, but you can sometimes end up missing those little things that make it such a magical day."
