Elms Barn Weddings. Same Sex Marriage. Norfolk Brides

Jane and Bekki’s country-themed wedding was the realisation of a shared vision – they even had a joint trip to choose their dresses and got ready together on the morning of the wedding!

Both brides declared it their perfect day, with everyone they loved around them, lots of family involvement, a fantastic confetti moment and beautiful gardens for their wedding pictures – the sun even shone!

We have orifinaly shared this beautiful story in our 2nd issue of Norfolk Brides Magazine and we thought it was about the time you see their full wedding feature!

Hope you enjoy it as much as we did!

THE Proposal

Jane asked Bek – Bek had absolutely no idea. We were on our way to friends near Bath and stayed in Woodstock, Oxfordshire for the night. We stayed at a gorgeous boutique guest house called The Glove House – it had a luxurious copper roll top bath and lots of pampering extras. Jane had planned it all in order to make the proposal really special – so after a day out in beautiful Woodstock Jane found her nerve to pop the question. A very stunned Bek said "Yes"

We already had commitment rings, so Jane bought Bek a proposal necklace instead!

before the big day

We planned our wedding in 9 months. We chose our wedding venue first and then built the rest of the wedding around it.  Elm’s Barn stole our hearts the moment we saw it and we just knew we had to get married there. We realised we didn’t have a great deal of time, but somehow we just focussed and were decisive with our choices and everything fell into place. The whole experience was amazing – we’d do it all again if we could!

We wanted a country/nature feel to our wedding – hence the choice of  Elm’s Barn. The location was perfect and it fitted with us as a couple. We wanted our guests to have space to wander in the gardens through the day and obviously wanted a great location for our photos.

When it came to getting our wedding dresses, unbelievably the first dresses we both chose to try on were the ones we picked! We went together as we wanted our dresses to have similarity, but also individuality – so we decided to look at 50’s tea length designs as it also felt romantic for the natural theme. The dresses were both by Lou Lou (Sophia & Lysette) and complimented each other perfectly!

"Be decisive and choose what you both want – not what others tell you to do – it’s ‘YOUR’ wedding day – enjoy it!"

Your Wedding Day

After a restless night of excitement and nerves we had a lovely breakfast in Stackyard Lodge with four of our best friends. Then it was straight to hair and make-up followed by the arrival of the photographer, at which point  it started to feel really serious.  It was a very exciting morning, but we also felt relaxed - everything felt natural and we knew we were in good hands all round.

Finally, our bridesmaids helped us both to get in to our dresses; it took some time to get Bekki into hers as there were so many buttons!  Bekki’s best friend and brides man calmed her nerves with a little shot of ouzo and looked after the wedding party.

Next thing we knew, it was time to be driven to the barn in the Bentley, Jane and Dad John first, then Bekki and Dad Richard.  We walked in to All You Need is Love by Lynden David Hall  and we could see that our guests were as emotional as we were. It was a beautiful ceremony, we had poems for our ring exchange & during the register signing, our niece Ruby sang Songbird by Fleetwood Mac.

At the end of the ceremony we walked out into the marquee and greeted our guests with bubbly...

Time went so quickly and before we knew it, we were eating our superb wedding breakfast of double baked cheese soufflé, salmon on spinach with saffron cream and lemon tart, (it’s the best lemon tart you will ever taste!).

The amazing speeches took place after the meal, the two Dad’s who brought everyone to tears, both brides spoke about love and friendship, Ted our nephew who told everyone what terrible aunties we were when we made them eat one foot long hot dog each on Great Yarmouth seafront. Ted then brought in a giant hot dog balloon; he made everyone laugh with other stories! Finally, Alice our niece read a poem she had written, leaving everyone teary eyed.

We had a little time to take it all in before the throwing of the bouquet and our fist dance. It was amazing to see so many women jump for the flowers!  Our lovely toastmaster John Driscoll gathered the guests for our first dance; we chose John Legend’s "All of Me" as it’s such an emotional song, which he originally wrote for his wedding.

Party time was here and the Joe Ringer band was absolutely fab, they rocked the place and lots of people danced the night away. On their last song they got both brides up to join in, an amazing finish to an incredible day. It’s true it is the best day of your life and the memories and photos will live forever.
