Brought together by their friendship 9 years ago, Matthew & Georgina started dating and now had been together for 5 years. They had their wedding on 28th June 2014 and it was a beautiful intimate affair with family and closest friends at St Giles House Hotel in Norwich.
The sweet proposal while having a romantic picnic has certainly warmed our hearts and was an unexpected surprise for Georgina.
“On Friday the 21st June Matthew arranged a picnic and we went to Morston, a place which is close to Matthew’s heart as he and his family have been visiting for years as they have boats moored there. Matthew had bought Champagne and asked me to marry him; I at this point thought he was messing around until he produced a beautiful diamond ring!!”
The Wedding Planning
“We started looking at venues straight away, as we have both previously been married we decided that we wanted something low key which involved our four children, immediate family and a handful of close friends. We were very keen to have the sort of wedding we wanted and to be able to enjoy the day. We looked around Cley Windmill which was a different venue however just a bit too small for what we needed. We decided on St Giles House Hotel, we had previously had an overnight stay there and loved the food, venue and service that we received. We arranged to meet up with Alice Cooksey, the Wedding and Events Manager. We loved the package they offered and her relaxed, professional and flexible attitude sealed the deal. Initially we wanted to get married on the 21st June, a year after Matt proposed but they were already booked so we went for the following weekend. We paid the deposit and then didn’t start any further planning until January 2014.”
The Wedding Dress
Georgina looked absolutely beautiful and we are left really impressed with her bargain find in the local BigC shop in Norwich! Not only getting her beautiful gown from the BigC shop saved her pennies fro that dreamy honeymoon, she also looked beautiful and in the process helped the charity raise so much needed funds.
“ My mum, sister and niece came dress shopping. We made an appointment to try some dresses on in the city but were a little early on the day so decided on the off chance to look in the Big C charity shop on Timberhill, Norwich. They had a good selection of wedding dresses in a number of different styles and sizes. At the end of the day I wanted something that I felt nice in that wasn’t going to cost a small fortune as we wanted to spend the money on an extra special honeymoon instead.
After trying on numerous dresses I found one that was brand new that had been donated from a wedding dress shop in Holt that had closed down. It fitted like a glove. The shoes I had also borrowed to try on with the dresses were also brand new and so comfy so I bought them as well, in total the dress and the shoes cost £162.50 - an absolute steal!”
The Wedding Day
The couple spent their wedding morning together at their family home with their four children. At lunch time, the bride and her party were escorted to their luxurious hotel where they got pampered and prepared for their wedding ceremony at the registry office.
“The wedding breakfast went well and the speeches were funny and emotional. We decided not to have children on the day as the venue didn’t really have the facility to have loads of kids running around and we wanted our friends to enjoy some rare time together. We have enjoyed going to weddings in the past where children weren’t invited and thoroughly enjoyed the few hours off being an adult. Our four children were there and our 2 nieces. They enjoyed themselves and all stayed the night in the hotel with their grandparents. “
“We knew we didn’t want a massive party as we were flying out on honeymoon the following morning, this is the only thing I would have changed about the day, having a day in between the wedding and the honeymoon as Matthew didn’t really relax as he knew he had to drive the next day. I think the last guest left just before 1pm. The following morning we had breakfast with all our family which was really nice and a lovely way to finish off the wedding.”
The Favorite Moments
“The children doing their readings in the service and the speeches, I had no involvement in these. Bailey gave me away and did the first speech before the Wedding breakfast and made us so proud. Matthew also wanted to do his speech prior to eating (I think he wanted to get it over and done with) and his speech was funny and covered everything I would have said, he also did us proud. “
Georgina & Matthew Recommends
The couple stuck to their budget as they wanted to splash out on their honeymoon instead and their big wedding tip is to shop around – “You don’t have to spend a fortune to have the sort of wedding you want” and we couldn’t agree more!
